Financial Report

Please find our parish's financial report here and Fr. Gober's accompanying letter below:

Dear Friends in Christ,

I hope this finds you and your loved ones well.  Thank you for the warm welcome!  I look forward to serving you as your new pastor.  I am grateful to Bishop Jugis for the assistance of Fr. Felix and Fr. Taylor, as we seek to serve the needs of St. Leo the Great Parish.

Our new fiscal year began on 1 July, so it’s time to talk about our financial situation. I’m sure many of you are wondering about our financial health during the COVID-19 pandemic.  For the fiscal year that just ended, we had an Operating Deficit of $49,000.  While expenses were carefully managed, and came in $30,000 under budget, we still had to transfer $50,000 from our reserves to cover cash shortages.

To date, our General Offertory is down 21% from this time last year.  The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly reduced offertory income over the last six months.  In light of the pandemic, we are forecasting an Operating Deficit of $360,000 for the current fiscal year.

On a positive note, school enrollment is up by 20 students.  We are including a new monthly envelope (and an online option) for donations to offset Tuition Assistance for families in need.  St. Leo continues to subsidize over $220,000 in tuition for all parish students who attend Catholic schools, including Bishop McGuinness High School.

I am deeply grateful to everyone who contributed during this past year.  Your generosity made it possible for us to pay our bills, assist those in need, maintain our school, provide a variety of services to our people all while doing our part in sustaining the ministry of our bishop and the Diocese of Charlotte.

Please know that we are deeply committed to continuing the good work of our parish during this pandemic.  We are dependent upon your weekly financial gifts to continue our ministries, especially when Mass attendance is so suppressed.  Our targeted weekly offertory of approximately $23,000 helps to offset our expenses and provide assistance to those in need.   Expenses continue to be evaluated and reduced where possible. The complete financial report is available on our website.  www.stleocatholic.org.

If you cannot attend Mass, please consider supporting St. Leo by sending a donation through the mail or through electronic giving by visiting our website.  Many thanks to those of you who continue to support our parish during this time.

Finally, I invite you to prayerfully consider increasing your offertory gift if you are in a position to do so. Your kindness will assist our parish in successfully managing through the pandemic, without depleting our cash reserves, while still attending to those in need.

With my prayers,

Fr C Gober

Pastor
