Updated Face Covering Policy

Dear Friends in Christ,

I hope this finds you and your loved ones well.

I’m happy to see more of you participating in the sacraments, especially Penance and Holy Mass. My top pastoral priority and responsibility during this pandemic is to take every precaution to protect the most vulnerable and provide the safest access to the sacraments.

To date, we have been following the guidelines offered to pastors from the Diocese of Charlotte. However, given the fact that COVID cases are rising, the flu season is upon us and more people are returning to Mass, I think it’s time to put everyone at ease by wearing Face Coverings during Mass. Therefore, I kindly ask that everyone wear a Face Covering, throughout the duration of every Mass, beginning this weekend.  Please be mindful of social distancing while in the church, especially as you approach Holy Communion.  Immediately before receiving Holy Communion, please lower your Face Covering. The rights of the Faithful to receive either on the hand or directly on the tongue remain in effect.

Please be assured that I have consulted with experts in the medical community and believe everyone is safer by wearing Face Coverings in our small church. In the end, it’s not about our personal preferences or politics. Rather, it’s about doing everything we can as a parish family to be sure we protect the most vulnerable.

Let us do our part to ease our neighbor’s anxieties, keep everyone healthy and allow for the strength and comfort we all receive from coming to Holy Mass.

With my prayers,
Fr Gober
