The parents, William and Loretto Koch, are the older couple in the middle of the picture. Frederick is the young man in knickers second from right, and on the far right is older brother William Koch Jr., who also died in 1943 in an airplane crash. Frederick Koch's sister Peggy, second from the left, was the first family member able to make it to Frederick Koch's hospital bedside in Winston-Salem after Koch was injured in a car crash on June 12, 1943. She was also the mother of Tom Mead, interviewed for this story.
